Charter Award from Congress for the New Urbanism

5/22/2023

We're honored 1212 Larkin Place, a full block development and adaptive-reuse historic project, received a Charter Award from Congress for the New Urbanism, especially since these awards promote "building spaces that people love."

It was exciting how quickly Larkin created community through new urbanist design, including its contextual architecture and its generous porches set close to the walks.

When we walked the block soon after residents moved in, those on their porches asked us how and what we were doing. So we talked and they shared how they liked their new homes. One mother told us how she liked being able to watch her children walk to the school across the street.

The new urbanist design with porches set close to walks encourages casual conversations, and this interaction creates community connections between neighbors, and the public as well.
