This suburban residence is located on a steep hill in a heavily wooded area outside of Chicago. Cordogan, Clark & Associates designed this home so that its owners would have abundant open spaces for entertaining as well as private areas for intimate family life. The main living floor is located at ground level, and its large windows and doors provide a visual and physical connection to the surrounding landscape. The second floor contains bedrooms and balconies that overlook the living spaces below. The master bedroom is located below the entry level floor, in the lower third of the copper drum. Although this floor is below the main entrance, it takes advantage of the land sloping down towards the ravine to bring in and natural light and surrounding views.

The spatial layering, fenestration, and built-in furnishings of the Copperhouse are carefully articulated and read from the interior to the exterior of the residence. The specific details of the house are repeated with variations throughout: similarities can be seen from the copper-clad windows at the exterior to the cherry trim on the built-ins on the interior.
