The design for the Aurora Police Headquarters and Branch Courts features state-of-the-art technology, substantial increases in the amount of physical space, and sustainable, LEED Gold Certified architecture. The Police Headquarters is classified as a "green" building due to its incorporation of on-site renewable energy technologies and conservation techniques, such as photovoltaics, green-roofs, optimized daylighting, water efficient landscaping, and innovative wastewater technologies that reduce water use by 50%. Additional LEED design credits include: Fundamental Commissioning of the Building Energy Systems; Minimum Energy Performance; Optimized Energy Performance; Enhanced Refrigerant Management; Construction Activity Pollution Prevention; Development Density & Community Connectivity; Brownfield Redevelopment; Alternative Transportation, Public Transportation Access; Roof Heat Island Effect Mitigation; and Light Pollution Reduction.
